About LARRY MYERS:
Come and Experience the man that was once 940 pounds sing his way back to Happiness. Larry Myers is an urban contemporary gospel and R&B artist and a breakout reality television personality. Larry is a Yonkers, New York native whose artist journey began while he was in high school. He auditioned to be on the television show Star Search but was told that he was too “fat and black” to have a career in the music industry. Larry didn’t let this feedback stop him. He then sang at a showcase at Sweetwater’s located in NYC which led him to being a regular contestant on Showtime At The Apollo including Wednesday Night’s Coca Cola Amateur Night and he had a very successful run.
Larry would arrive at the venue early after taking the Metro North Railway to get there. He would be provided with Popeyes Chicken and “buttermilk biscuit” combo prior to the start of the show. He always had an appreciation for “buttermilk biscuits” which would ironically play a pivotal role in his career years later. Singing at Amateur Night opened doors for Larry to sing overseas in Denmark, Switzerland, and Paris where he worked with Thomas Blackman and the legendary Chaka Kahn. He also would sing at John Beatty’s famous establishment the Cotton Club located in Harlem New York, which also had delicious food. He would have sold out shows every year.
Larry was excited with his success but was battling depression regarding his weight. Larry has been blessed to grace the stage with several national musical greats and was apart of a tribute honoring the iconic James Brown. He also made guest appearances on the television show Bobby Jones Gospel. As his weight continued to increase, Larry spent two years in a nursing home facility where his weight loss journey began. He would fight his depression by getting dressed up and singing his way out of his circumstances.
When Larry’s episode (documenting his weight loss journey) on TLC’s hit show My 600 Lb Life aired in the Spring of 2022, it immediately garnered more than 1 million views and went viral on social media. He experienced an overwhelming response from the public that came with support and some negative feedback. Larry persevered through it all and created a genius brand that we know as “Mr. Buttermilk Biscuit”.
He relocated to Houston and is now working on the buttermilk biscuit show live. He will be doing some R&B, Gospel, and classics live on tour. He is working on a documentary about his life. Even though Larry experienced some challenges throughout his career.
